[I'm sorry Loren & Lara...]
back in June we bought a house. on Garrett Street of all places.
I was thinking the other day as Garrett was mowing the front lawn about the first time he mowed our front yard. We were both really excited for him to "mow the lawn." I watched him do it. There's something really special about owning your first house. I don't know... it's just fun and really special to get to own something TOGETHER for the first time.
and sometimes stressful.
So we are still not completely finished with all that are wanting to do, but I'll post some of what we've already done.
FRONT ROOM/LIVING ROOM

I basically just decorate with other peoples junk or stuff I make. all of our furniture has either been given to us or we bought for no more than $60 as Salvation Army.
Shag Rug \\ Home Depot
pillows & curtains \\ IKEA
Framed shelves \\ made by my Carpenter Husband
everything else \\ garage sales or from family
I have several things all over our house that are from our wedding that I've saved. This curio cabinet is kinda like my collection of most of it. My wedding bouquet, our painting we did on our first date, some wedding photos, our cake toppers... the hearts Bella "threw" down the aisle. she actually got kind of embarrassed and didn't throw any until the altar... 3 of them. I love it.
WINSLOW'S ROOM

I should go ahead and mention that the color of the walls in these photos don't do it justice. Its a color at Sherwin Williams called Relentless Olive. it really a lot deeper, darker and richer than what these show. kinda looks pukey yellow-green in this. we ripped up the carpet, it wasn't in the best shape. the wood floor isn't in the greatest either because it needs a sealant but you really can't tell cuz of rugs and such.
curtains \\ IKEA $15 per pair of panels
rugs \\ IKEA
bed used to be mine before marriage
paper dolls on the wall \\ eBay $20 (only used a few tho)
rocking chair \\ Salvation Army $40
blue trunk nightstand \\ garage sale $3
toy horse \\ Garrett's from his childhood
The most expensive thing in this photo other than the crib was that W. haha. but I had a vision and so we went with it. the banner is from my baby shower made my beautiful sister.
crib \\ garage sale $100
bumper & crib skirt \\ eBay $20
Letter W \\ some wooden letter website $40
diaper bag \\ target $30
my grandparents bought this baby dresser at a garage sale for dirt cheap. they painted it, distressed it and sealed it with stuff they already had. I bought the knobs which cost more than the dresser did!
mirror \\ gift
hanging light \\ garage sale $5
baby dresser \\ garage sale $10
knobs \\ Hobby Lobby $20 (that was half price)
hair-bow holder \\ I made it from stuff I had around the house, jute, an old frame...

I decided I wanted the color on the ceiling in this room. it's called Harvest Gold or something like that. I'm not sure, but again, these pictures don't really show the true tint.
rug \\ IKEA $99
curtains \\ Big Lots $30
lamps \\ thrift stores & garage sales $30 total?
floral prints \\ Enid, OK thrift shop $6 for 4
love. pillow \\ homemade
cute puppy \\ priceless
we wanted to make our ceiling look higher in here, so we didn't do the gray but in an 18" wide strip on the walls. we painted the walls white (same color as the trim) up to the line and then my Carpenter Man painted and took care of the trim to finish it off.
I'm not completely finished here. A HUGE Black & White of our wedding pictures is going right about the dresser in the corner. The mirror was our first project we did when we were engaged and trying to get a life ready. we found it but it was painted brown and had no mirror. Garrett had someone bathroom vanity mirror that he was throwing away so we took it to Angelo Glass and $20 later, there we have it.
mirror \\ storage unit sale $25
dressers \\ from family
KITCHEN

I went with white walls since it's so "in" right now and we PAINTED the cabinets a different color gray. want to test your marriage? buy a house and decide how to decorate it. TOGETHER. haha...
I know we'll survive now.
j/halfway/k.
also, the knobs were the other knobs, we just painted them with Rustoleum's hardware paint.
cheap way to get new hardware.
I LOVE cafe curtains! had to have some in my kitchen.
curtains \\ Big Lots $20
curtain rods \\ $12
excuse my dishes. there was NO way I was gonna get a picture without something out of place in here. those romans shades I MADE using this tutorial. crazy right? they ended up costing me $9 a piece.
the kitchen is not finished, we still hope to replace the tile & the countertops are in horrible shape as well. but hey... it works for us right now.
on the agenda next (after hospital bills) is
THE BATHROOM.
a complete gut and remodel.
I'm so thankful for a Husband, Dad, Father-in-Law & Papa who can do all this stuff!
it makes me dream really
B I G.
well, there you have it.
I'll keep you updated on the bathroom. it'll look completely different once it's finished.
I did not include a picture now because it's embarrassing. haha.
but you know, I'm so happy here. in my cozy little home that isn't that much and needs some work, but it's ours. for now. and we honestly feel like God dropped it in our laps.
our neighbor across the street is a retired Postal worker. He's also a believer.
He said when this house was for sale, he prayed that God would send believers to live in it.
so here we are.
be blessed. I definitely am.
b.
